Where you might work
A Griffith University student, Eric Lin, was offered a 5-month student exchange trip at the University of Miami in Florida. His degree in Microelectronics has prepared him to apply for a high-tech engineering position in the US. He was also offered a part-time position in the Uni of Miami's medical school as a Computer Network Assistant.
Griffith University first class Honours student Julian Kolodko was selected to work on robotic development work at the German National Institute of Information Technology. Julian is currently working on his PhD after studying a combined Bachelor of Engineering (Microelectronic Engineering) / Bachelor of Information Technology.
What some other people have done
- Peter Snelling, a 19 year old science student at UQ, was selected to attend the Australian Institute of Nuclear Science and Engineering and Australian Nuclear Science and Technology Organisation annual Winter School, which is held in July in Sydney. This year's theme was Nuclear Techniques Applied to Natural Processes. The students selected to attend are the best in the fields of chemistry, engineering, environmental science, geology, and physics.
- Jamie Madden, a 21 year old Information Environment honours student from UQ Ipswich, won 1 of 16 national Apple University Consortium scholarships. This student was selected from more than 90 applicants. The scholarship included a paid trip to the World Wide Developers Conference in San Jose, California, and AUC membership.
- Emma Carlisle, a 4th-year mechanical engineering student at UQ won the inaugural best undergraduate thesis award from the Australian Acoustical Society (Queensland Division), worth $1000. Her thesis "investigated the development of a new technique to measure the sound absorption capability of building materials" (from UQ News, August 2002, No. 517, page 14).
